Isabel HortelanoGrowth Manager One of the things I enjoy most about working at Plumery is seeing our technology come to life in everyday moments — like paying at the supermarket or an online shop — and being able to share with friends and family how these systems actually work behind the scenes."

FAQ
Questions that may be on your mind
Here we lay out some of what you can expect if you apply to a role or join our team.
What does your hiring process look like?
Our hiring process is designed to learn as much as we can about you in as little time as possible, so you’re not committing too much effort before we hire you.
A typical process looks like (Note: this may vary depending on the team and the role you’re applying for):
- A 30-minute initial interview. Depending on the role, this could be with the hiring manager or founder, Ben Goldin.
- A personality assessment, such as the Hogan Assessment. This gives us an idea of what it might be like to work with you over time.
- A second interview. Depending on the role, this could be with the hiring manager or founder, Ben Goldin.
- An interview with a peer, for instance, with our Head of Growth or Product or Chief of Staff.
- Finally we ask you to complete an assignment designed to test your thinking in a real world situation. It’s usually designed so it doesn’t require you to set aside much time (if any) to prepare.
If you’re talented, don’t count yourself out. We hire the best people from any background. The diversity of our senior team is evidence of this.
How long does the recruitment process usually take?
The recruitment process varies in length, depending on the role. However we usually wish to make a hire as soon as possible, so the process is rarely longer than between two and four weeks.
Do you offer remote, hybrid, or in office work?
We’re a remote-first company. We have a head office in Amsterdam, but many of our colleagues work remotely in a number of locations around the world. This is a high priority in our culture, so don’t expect any mandates to return to the office.
What does onboarding look like for new employees?
There is no formal onboarding path for our employees. Instead, you can expect your first few days to feel like diving in the deep end, with support from us.
You’ll meet the founder, the hiring manager, and you’ll get a number of vital recordings and write-ups to look through. But you’ll also get straight into the action, offering your expertise and your input. But we’re also realistic about what to expect: no one’s going to blame you if you get anything wrong in the first week.
We want you to prioritise the outcomes you can bring, not the tasks you can complete. So you’ll have autonomy and you’ll be defining your own personal strategy to achieve results. No one will be directing you, but we’ll be on hand to help.
You’ll likely need to commit to discovery at first, figuring out what’s already working and what’s not. That way you can build your own plan to move an area of the company forward.
What is your company culture like?
In our culture there is autonomy and ownership. We work to give financial institutions, and our team members, the independence to pursue their own strategies. If you like micromanagement or corporate directives, look elsewhere. We trust each of our people to set their own direction, to find and solve problems, and stay outcome-oriented.
There is openness and new ideas. It’s a startup cliche to say we need people to be adaptable, curious and able to think outside the box, but that’s exactly what we need. We can’t afford to rely on what’s worked in the past.
There is a team at your back. If you get stuck, you can always ask for help. And you can be brutally honest about how your day is going. We require no fake smiles.
There is willingness to find a way. Things will go wrong, but we believe in taking ownership when they do. We’ll trust you to stay motivated and to keep working on a problem.
There is one missing piece. Our culture isn’t complete and locked in stone. We’re looking for people to add to our culture, not just fit in, and we want people to bring themselves and all of their qualities to the table.
What does work-life balance look like?
Work-life balance is protected at Plumery. We want people to have families and hobbies, and we believe overworking is taking a credit you have to pay back. The last thing we need is for our people to be drained on a Monday morning because they worked the weekend. To stay rested and energised, we generally don’t work beyond 9–5 or 9–6, five days a week.
Our working hours aren’t rigid, so there’s some flexibility to set your own hours around family commitments or personal needs.
What opportunities are there for learning and career growth?
This isn’t a company to join if you’re looking for a formal learning and career path, but you’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn and step up as new challenges arise for the company. As a startup we’re growing rapidly, so if you do your best work with us, you can expect opportunities to move upwards (or horizontally) as the company changes.
